MEDIA, PA (June 30, 2024) – Barsz Gowie Amon & Fultz (BGA&F) is proud to announce the retirement of Partner Richard “Rick” Brennan, CPA, MT, effective June 30, 2024. Rick has been an integral part of our firm, bringing decades of expertise that have significantly contributed to our growth and success.
A graduate of the University of Scranton, Rick earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting in 1982 and later received his Master of Taxation from Villanova University. He began his career in public accounting at a local firm in Paoli, where he gained early exposure to not-for-profit organizations, small businesses, and individual taxation. As a recent college graduate, Rick was tasked with operating a cutting-edge piece of technology at the time—a personal computer—using it to prepare income tax returns and electronic spreadsheets.
In 1983, Rick joined KPMG’s middle market practice in Valley Forge, where he honed his skills working with diverse clients. After four years, he transitioned to Airgas, where his expertise in family-owned businesses aligned with the company’s acquisition strategy, which focused on retiring owners. Rick spent 20 years at Airgas, managing all aspects of business acquisitions, including valuations, negotiations, integration planning and execution, and purchase accounting. His role also extended to operations, budgeting, business process improvements, and overseeing major technology implementations.
From 2008 to 2013, Rick operated his own accounting practice, specializing in individual taxation and providing subcontracting services for other CPA firms. During this time, he began collaborating with Merves Amon & Barsz, which laid the foundation for his future role.
Rick officially joined Merves Amon & Barsz in 2014, quickly becoming a key contributor. By 2017, just prior to the formation of Barsz Gowie Amon & Fultz, Rick was named partner. Rick’s specialization in individual, small business, and non-profit tax preparation and planning, combined with his technical and detail-oriented approach, has made him a master at solving complex tax issues.
“Rick’s contributions to our firm have been unparalleled. His exceptional technical skills and meticulous attention to detail have made him our go-to expert whenever new tax laws and regulations emerge. His ability to quickly grasp and apply complex changes has been invaluable in ensuring our clients receive the best possible guidance and support,” said Managing Partner William B. Gowie, CPA, MT.
As Rick embarks on this new chapter of his life, his colleagues and clients will miss his expertise and leadership, but his legacy will continue to resonate within the firm. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Rick for his many years of service and wish him all the best in his well-deserved retirement.
