MEDIA, PA (January 8, 2020) – Peter Barsz, partner and CPA with Barsz Gowie Amon & Fultz, has resigned as receiver of Chester Upland School District after three years of working in the District.

Appointed in 2016 by Common Pleas Court President Judge Chad Kenney, Barsz has helped the school district organize and maintain its financial stability while working to improve academic achievement. Overseeing the necessary function of bills being paid and payrolls being met was an important responsibility he accepted and achieved. During his tenure, he oversaw approximately $30 million of bond financings, which were used to refund prior year deficits and make essential improvements within the District for such things as new roofs, heating and air conditioning systems, and doors among many.

Due to the recent expansion of his accounting firm, he felt it necessary to leave his post and return to his firm to assist with the increased workload.

Anthony Johnson, President of the School Board, had high praise for Barsz during his time as receiver:

“He’s been challenged more times than any receiver, any control board, power board, ever in history. But he came here to help, when he didn’t have to come. This district has been through a lot and he came in and stabilized that business, under all of that pressure. So, I want to thank him just for that.”

“I met some very wonderful people while working in Chester Upland. I’ve been constantly amazed by the dedication and genuine care they show to securing a future for the children of the district,” Barsz said. “I wish only the best for the school moving forward.”

During an October hearing to appoint a new temporary receiver, Common Pleas Court Judge Barry Dozer spoke highly of Barsz’ service to the community:

“Mr. Peter Barsz, the court appointed receiver, has served the Chester City community and the Chester Upland School District with professional excellence, accountability and has helped to restore stability and the promise of improved educational offerings. I would like to thank him for his tenure, thank him for his public service. Mr. Barsz is an excellent example of a profile of courage, commitment to the children of our school district and the public service to our community.”
